Bison

John,

It is my pleasure to introduce Hope, a bison calf recently born on the Eastern Shoshone's Wind River Reservation in Wyoming.

We received over 10,000 name suggestions from our wildlife champions for this young calf—a true testament to the passion our members share for this iconic animal. Will you help us give Hope and other wildlife a future that lives up to her name?

Buffalo are an iconic species for Native Americans. Once roaming the plains by the millions, wild buffalo dwindled to fewer than 100 in the early 1900s. Today, thanks to years of dedication, buffalo have been restored to many of our public lands as well as tribal lands. Baby Hope is just one of several calves already born this year to the Eastern Shoshone Tribe's herd.

"Restoring buffalo to the Wind River Reservation is not only revitalizing the landscape and increasing wildlife diversity, but rebuilding our tribe's cultural and historical connections to the land. We are 'buffalo people,' and our ancestors are smiling upon us as we bring our people and the buffalo together once again." -Jason Baldes
