As Maryland Comptroller, one of my priorities is equipping Marylanders and policymakers with up-to-date, accurate, and readily available information on our state’s economy.
We rely on key sources like the Bureau of Labor Statistics job report to track trends and changes in our economy. This is especially important for Maryland, as we anticipate significant challenges to our financial well-being, exacerbated by federal job losses that escalated during the Trump administration.
But the federal government shutdown prevented the Bureau of Labor Statistics from releasing its latest jobs report. Unfortunately, not having this information makes our work even more challenging and serves as one of the many real consequences of Trump’s actions. I published an article about why this information is essential to a well-functioning economy - check out my article and share it here.
Jobs, pensions, taxpayers, and our communities depend on our access to vital information like this. It’s unacceptable to use such essential data as political bargaining chips.
My best,
