Electors are tasked with casting an Electoral College ballot for a candidate they've pledged to -- and that aligns with the state or district's election results.
"Faithless" electors are those who break the pledge (and ignore the voters) to cast a ballot for their own personal preference, and the Supreme Court unanimously ruled that faithless electors can be reined in.

Sen. Chuck Grassley (IA) and Sen. Lamar Alexander (TN) announced this week that they will not attend the Republican National Convention.
Sen. Grassley said it was due to his concerns about COVID-19; Sen. Alexander released a broad statement about making delegate spots available for first-time convention-goers.

Democrats have already announced their delegates won't attend in-person at their rescheduled August convention.

The Republican National Convention will split events between North Carolina, the original host, and Florida, the newly rescheduled location for President Trump's acceptance speech.
And in addition to normal convention prep -- no small feat! -- the Republican Party is now adding COVID-19 response to its to-do list.
The convention will reportedly complete daily temperature checks and COVID-19 tests of attendees as well as follow sanitation protocols and make PPE available to attendees.
