Watch: Congressman Tom Emmer joins Fox Business to discuss the ongoing Schumer Shutdown

The House has done its job. We passed a clean, nonpartisan continuing resolution to keep the government open and working for the American people. 

Unfortunately, 41 Senate Democrats have chosen to oppose this clean continuing resolution five times despite having passed the same legislation 13 times under President Biden. Instead, they’ve proposed their own bill, which demands an additional $1.5 trillion in partisan spending in exchange for fulfilling their most basic obligation of funding the federal government.

Their proposal includes FREE health care for illegal immigrants, $500 million to prop up failing public media outlets, a $50 billion cut to investments in rural health care, and billions of dollars to foreign countries for climate-related projects.

These aren’t Republican talking points; these are the real impacts of these Democrats’ continuing resolution. Buried on page 57 of their 68-page proposal, Section 2141, the Democrats’ continuing resolution repeals the Working Families Tax Cut bill’s new safeguards against waste, fraud, and abuse in health care spending and restores nearly $200 billion in taxpayer-funded health care subsidies to illegal immigrants. Make no mistake: the reason that the federal government is shut down today is because Chuck Schumer, Tina Smith, Amy Klobuchar, and 38 Senate Democrats have decided they would rather hold our government hostage than join Republicans as we govern.
