Hi John,
Just before the government shut down last week, the Trump administration took a massive swipe at threatened species.
If the White House gets its way, hundreds of species, from manatees to monarch butterflies to sea otters, won't get the protection they need to survive and recover.
The Center for Biological Diversity will fight back against this rule change with everything we've got. Please help today by giving to the Future for the Wild Fund.
For years species listed as threatened have received the maximum federal protection.
This blanket rule has given species like northern spotted owls and southern sea otters a fighting chance.
Before the federal government shut down, the White House met with oil industry representatives and other anti-wildlife forces. It now wants to move ahead with rolling back protections for threatened species.
This would be a death sentence for hundreds of animals and plants.
From the moment it took office, the Trump administration has set its sights on tearing down wildlife conservation.
Weakening protections for imperiled animals and plants has long been a goal of the fossil fuel complex and others who want to pave over and pollute the lands, waters, and forests where these species live. We expect more attacks on the Endangered Species Act and its regulations in the coming weeks and months.
That's why we must be vigilant each and every day. The Act is the most powerful tool we have for saving species on the brink.
Withholding protection for a threatened species will make it easier to destroy their habitat. It's exactly the wrong direction for animals and plants facing extinction.
We're gearing up to protect the Act from this threat and those to come.
The Center is ready, and we know you are too.
Because threats to wildlife are ongoing, we need you for the long haul. Please start a monthly donation to sustain our defense.
For the wild,
