"What's the High Fivers Club", you ask? It started with a simple idea: There are nearly 1.2 million registered Democrats in Colorado -- what if every single one of them gave just $5 a month to the Colorado Democratic Party (CDP)?
Answer: The CDP would be the best-funded state party in the country -- with zero dollars from corporate PACs and plenty for flipping red seats to blue!
If you haven't given to the CDP yet, here's a few simple reasons why we're asking you today:

Republican operatives announced on Monday that they would be officially working to recall State Senator and Senate President Leroy Garcia. A Marine veteran of the Iraq War, Senator Garcia has been an outspoken champion for Pueblo and Southern Colorado. Yet, he's being targeted by Republicans who are still mad that they were defeated in 2018 in the Blue Wave. We were there to call out the sore losers launching this recall:
“As a Marine veteran of the Iraq War, Leroy Garcia served our country with honor. As the State Senator for Pueblo, Leroy has led the charge on innovative legislation to combat the opioid epidemic, and to ensure that veterans can access the proper healthcare they need and opportunities for jobs when they transition into civilian life. This is yet another attempt by Colorado Republicans to steal a Senate seat because they can’t win elections through legitimate means. His community re-elected him overwhelming by over 70% in 2018, and the people of Pueblo will not fall for this shady attempt by right-wing political operatives to overturn their decision.”
We're not alone in this opinion either. The Pueblo Chieftain's typically conservative editorial board sent out released two opinion pieces decrying the sham recall efforts:
EDITORIAL: Don’t undo voters’ will (5/1/19)
The bottom line is, a small group of voters who weren’t successful at the ballot box last year shouldn’t be using the recall process to disrupt the normal workings of government. Recall elections cost taxpayers money and create unnecessary instability.
EDITORIAL: End this recall silliness (7/18/19)
Absent some scandals or demonstrations of monumental incompetence, these recall efforts have to be viewed as what they really are — attempts to undo the will of the voters. The recall supporters are like those kids on the playground who always insisted on a “do-over” every time they lost a game.

Despite reports and warnings from economists that the U.S. could be headed towards another recession, President Trump proverbially kept his head in the sand, instead saying that a recession isn't possible because "We’re doing tremendously well. Our consumers are rich. I gave a tremendous tax cut and they’re loaded up with money."
Yes. You read that right.
Of course, that was only the start of the President's frankly bizarre week (more bizarre than usual). We've all grown accustomed to President Trump's racist and xenophobic remarks, but he took it a step further this week when he stated that any Jewish Americans who vote Democratic show "either a total lack of knowledge or great disloyalty."
CDP Chair Morgan Carroll had something to say about that:
"As a Jewish woman, I cannot begin to express the level of anger and disgust I have over President Trump’s disturbingly ignorant remarks. Considering that Trump himself is not a Jewish man, it is frankly insulting that he would presume to tell Jewish Americans how we should vote, and to basically call us stupid or ‘disloyal’ if we don’t support his party. It boggles the mind that Ken Buck, Cory Gardner, and the Colorado Republican Party continue to go to bat for this man."
Between this statement, and:
Wow. What a week. Is it any wonder that a new AP poll shows that Trump has a 62% disapproval rating?

Meet this week's volunteer of the week, Cathy! Cathy has been a very active volunteer in Douglas County, doing everything from voter registration to canvassing on campaigns both statewide and local! Cathy also serves as co-Captain of the Highlands Ranch Lone Tree Democrats!
Why do you volunteer for Democratic causes?
The day before the 2016 presidential election, I sat at the Douglas County Dem headquarters making call after call to get out the vote. It was the first time I’d ever made calls and it was nerve-wracking, to say the least. On the wall, there was a sign that said: "Do the Most Good." It became my mantra moving forward: in elections; holding elected officials accountable; and volunteering. I don't have to be the best at any of this, just keep on doing the most good I can for my community. The Colorado Democratic platform aligns with my values, and is the direction I think we should be heading. I want to help make that happen.

Tucked in the southcentral part of Colorado is the lovely 723 square miles of Alamosa County, established in 1913 and is the Spanish name for “Grove of Cottonwood Trees.” To the southeast of Alamosa County is Costilla County, to the southwest is Conejos County, east you will find Huerfano County, to the west is Rio Grande County and to the north is Saguache County. Alamosa is the county seat.
Pretty blue is the wave in Alamosa. Ron Brink and Erin Minks work hard to keep it blue. Alamosa, like many rural counties in Colorado, had a little hiccup in 2018. While State races went with the Democratic Candidates (and a county commissioner and sheriff), other local elections swung in a very different direction as did their Congressional District 3 race, making the horizon real blue and sky a little purple. There are approximately 2,914 Democrats, 2,588 Republicans, 2,906 Unaffiliated, registered voters. 59.65% turned in their ballots in 2018.
Alamosa County offers every type of outdoor recreation you can name. If you love trains, take a ride on the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad. Also being the “Gateway to the Great Sand Dunes” you can stop in and be amazed at the glorious landscape and play in the sand. Alamosa County also has one of the great wonders of Colorado, The Colorado Gators Reptile Park in Mosca, CO. Stop by and look online for discount tickets.
