Donald Trump and the GOP control the White House, the House, and the Senate. But instead of delivering health care for the American people, they have chosen to shut down the federal government as of 12:01am this morning.
I’ve been in Washington, D.C. alongside my Democratic colleagues, ready to negotiate a bill that cancels Trump’s horrific budget cuts, saves health care, and keeps the government open.
But Speaker Johnson sent Republican Members of Congress home to do fancy fundraisers with billionaires, refusing to negotiate.
Their shortsighted decisions will raise health care costs and devastate communities as working families across the country suffer.
It’s further confirmation that Trump and Republicans in Congress are more concerned with their billionaire donors than they are with poor and working people.
I’ve spent my life organizing to protect working families, and I’ve seen firsthand what happens when the government fails to show up for the people who need it most. That’s why it’s critical that we continue organizing and building a grassroots movement strong enough to win.
