Dear Friend,
Tonight, Republicans are going to shut down the government. They control all three branches and have no problem ramming through bills that rip healthcare and food assistance away from millions of Americans. Tonight, House Republicans aren’t even on the job. The American people elected Republicans to lead, and they can’t even keep the lights on.
Meanwhile, my Democratic colleagues are fighting for you and the seniors, veterans, and working families across the country who have been taking the hit from the Trump Administration. While Republicans are on vacation, we are in Washington, D.C. working to keep healthcare affordable for 24,000 people in my district, protect our federal workers, and keep the government open.
Keep reading below to find resources on the government shutdown and more information about how I’m working for you.
Government Shutdown Resources

Congressman Norcross stands with his Democratic colleagues on the Capitol steps to hold a press conference on the looming Republican government shutdown. Watch the full press conference here. |
To help you navigate the government shutdown, my office has created a webpage that provides answers to some of the most common questions I have received from constituents. Due to the Trump Administration’s lack of transparency, the resources are subject to change, but we will continue to update this website as we learn more.
My office will remain open during the Republican shutdown. Please do not hesitate to call my office at 856-427-7000 with any questions or for assistance with a federal agency. To access the Republican shutdown resources webpage, click here.
Democrats are Working for You, Republicans are on Vacation

Congressman Norcross meets with Catharyne Henderson, a surgical oncology nurse who spoke during a Democratic press conference about how the Republican health care cuts will hurt her patients. |
While Republicans are on vacation, Democrats remain in Washington, D.C. ready to fund the government and lower healthcare costs for the American people. Unfortunately, Republicans would rather shut down the government than make healthcare more affordable.
Without action by President Trump and Congress, many of the Affordable Care Act tax credits that help lower the cost of premiums will expire soon. Find out how much more your family will pay for their health insurance premiums if the tax credits expire using this calculator.
I won’t stop fighting to lower your health care costs and end this Republican shutdown.
Protecting Our Federal Workforce
 |
Congressman Norcross stands with AFL-CIO President, Liz Shuler, and federal workers during a American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) rally. |
The Republican shutdown will have a large impact on our federal workers, but I’ve been working in Congress to ease the burden. Many of these employees have to work without pay until the shutdown ends, and federal contractors are not even guaranteed payment for their services. I’m supporting legislation that would ban laying off federal employees during a shutdown, allow federal employees to apply for unemployment insurance, and ensure federal contractors receive payments after the shutdown ends.
If our federal employees have to go without pay, then Members of Congress should too. That’s why I requested that my salary be withheld for the duration of the Republican shutdown.
