John,

Happy Independence Day! 244 years ago, our founding fathers declared our independence from Great Britain and created these United States.

Since then, Americans have been fighting to keep and improve upon our union, and today, we’re seeing true patriots stand up across America to say that the status quo isn’t working for them.

We’ve seen peaceful protestors march in fifty states to demand justice for the victims of police brutality and the racial inequities that stem from our nation’s beginning, reminding us that independence is not a guarantee, but something that we have to keep fighting for each day.

We’ve also seen our brave frontline workers, especially here in Texas, who have put their neighbors before themselves and worked countless hours to keep our vulnerable populations safe from COVID-19, despite a failure of political leadership from the top down.

While this year has been really hard, it’s also been a reminder of the strength of Americans to overcome. I see the America I fought for in these frontline workers, peaceful protestors, and small business owners giving back to their communities, and I’m ready to continue fighting for America.

One organization that has been instrumental in helping me and dozens of other veterans continue serving after leaving the military is VoteVets. They’re dedicated to sending progressive veterans to seats of power across the country so we can use our expertise to advocate for smart policies from the top down.

I can’t think of a better way to celebrate our freedom than by helping the men and women who have fought for it get elected across the country. Join me in supporting VoteVets today!

Proud to be an American,

Kim Olson
