Dear John,

On this Independence Day 2020, Steve and I are more grateful than ever for
this great land of the free and home of the brave.

We’ve had some serious challenges over the past few months, but my belief in
America, our God-given rights, and the promise of freedom are stronger than
ever ... and I know you feel the same!

I believe in the greatness of America.

I believe that we are ALL created equal — one Nation under God.  I believe
that our history — our brightest moments and our darkest — teach us, enlighten
us, and make us stronger.  I believe that our flag is an enduring symbol of
America’s promise, strength and perseverance.  I stand in awe and feel deep
gratitude for the men and women who have sacrificed to ensure that it still
waves today.

I believe in saying the Pledge of Allegiance with conviction and singing our
National Anthem loud and proud (despite a not so great singing voice!) I
believe in America, and together we will rise above the challenges of today and
emerge stronger and better tomorrow.

I believe in America, do you?

Steve and I hope that as you celebrate with family and friends, you will take
a few minutes this holiday weekend to reflect on freedom and just how precious
and exceptional our country is.  President Reagan told our nation decades ago
that “Freedom is a fragile thing and is never more than one generation away
from extinction.  It is not ours by inheritance; it must be fought for and
defended constantly by each generation, for it comes only once to a people.
Those who have known freedom and then lost it have never known it again.”

Let’s recommit to ourselves to doing all we can to preserve the freedoms of
today for generations to come.  Happy Independence Day!
