J Street

Friends,

Today’s meeting between Trump and Netanyahu at the White House could mark a turning point – the question is whether the US President finally has the strength needed to push through a deal.

With hostages languishing and civilian casualties climbing amid a devastating effort to take Gaza City, Trump is reportedly set to press for a new, permanent resolution to the war – one hammered out with Arab partners and Palestinian leadership in the region. Whether it will succeed will depend on whether Trump has the strength to press all parties to keep to it.

Today, we’re convening an emergency briefing at 4pm Eastern / 1pm Pacific to answer your questions and examine what may lie ahead.

I’ll be joined by J Street President Jeremy Ben-Ami, J Street Chief Policy Officer Ilan Goldenberg and Former US Middle East Peace Envoy Frank Lowenstein. Register now to join us today >>

It feels like we’ve been here a painful number of times before.

Trump’s proposal, as reported, crosses a number of Netanyahu’s red lines, including a path for a reformed Palestinian Authority governing Gaza. He’ll no doubt face immense pressure from his far-right partners to reject the deal – will Trump show the leadership required to hold Netanyahu’s feet to the fire?

Hamas also would be required to relinquish control, free all hostages and see their weapons stockpiles destroyed – and there’s no guarantee they’ll take that deal either. Our hope is that Arab states have helped craft a deal that can succeed, but the risks remain high.

Please join us right after Trump and Netanyahu’s meeting for rapid response and expert analysis – we look forward to taking your questions on where we go from here.

Thank you, sincerely, for your support.
