Hi there, it’s Matias with United We Dream. We recently wrapped up our West Coast Member Gathering — a memorable weekend marked by reflection, skill sharing, and honoring our collective history.

Through group conversations and workshops, members owned their voices and learned how to structure their organizing story. They learned how powerful sharing their stories can be for their communities — because people power is how we’ll organize for our freedom.
Our members discussed movements of the past, putting our history into perspective. We also made time for joy and community building. Together, we made tote bags, listened to music, played board games, and enjoyed time in nature.
Then, we dressed to impress at “the people’s gala,” where we had music, dancing, art activities, karaoke, and cake. It’s important for organizers to not only strategize and have hard conversations but also to have fun and practice self-care.
As we wrapped up our membership gathering, we asked our members what they’d recommend to other young people in this moment. One of our members in California said, “It’s important to find your community. It’s important to find your people and find your inspiration to do this work. We’re not the first generation to do this hard work… We’re continuing that long line of tradition of making sure people are involved and know that this is the spot for them.”
Even in challenging times, young people need to know it doesn’t have to be this way; that a different, brighter future is possible. We power each other and our communities, and together, we will win.
