The Ancient Philosopher Confucius was born!
Confucius was a philosopher and teacher whose ideas shaped Chinese culture for centuries. Living in a time of turmoil, he emphasized virtue, order, and respect in both personal life and government. His core teachings centered on ren (humaneness) and li (propriety), urging people to act with kindness and follow traditions that promote harmony. Though his vision was not fully realized in his lifetime, his disciples preserved his wisdom in The Analects, ensuring his influence endured. Today, Confucius is honored as a moral guide whose call for ethical leadership and respect for others remains relevant around the world. Some of the famous sayings attributed to him include:
“Do not do to others what you do not want done to yourself.”
“It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.”
“The man who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones.”
“Real knowledge is to know the extent of one’s ignorance.”
“When we see men of virtue, we should think of equaling them; when we see men of a contrary character, we should turn inward and examine ourselves.”
