Dear Friend,
Imagine the shock and devastation Jane Doe felt when she learned that her 13-year-old son, John, had been sex trafficked without her knowledge.
Imagine her horror when she learned the sex trafficker coerced John into making child sexual abuse material (CSAM), and that material was going viral on Twitter.
Imagine her anger when she and John reported the CSAM to Twitter, and the company flatly refused to take it down.
Now, imagine Jane and John’s utter grief when the lawsuit they filed against Twitter was tossed out by a district court, who ruled that the company was immune from all liability under Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act.
At this point, many people would have given up.
But not Jane and John.
Represented by the NCOSE Law Center, the mother-son pair pressed forward with determination. They appealed the district court’s decision. They fought all the way up to the Ninth Circuit, the second highest court in the country.
And finally, Jane and John’s perseverance paid off.
Last month, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals overturned
aspects of the district court’s decision and
allowed Jane and John’s lawsuit to proceed.
This could never have happened if
your support
hadn’t enabled Jane and John to stay in the fight for the long-haul. The NCOSE Law Center represents all our survivor clients free of charge, so
donations from people like you
are a big part of what makes these lawsuits possible.
But here’s the thing:
lawsuits take a long time. They take years. And to see a survivor’s lawsuit from start to finish, we need to be able to rely on
steady, dependable funding.
This dependable funding comes from our Defender Coalition—a steadfast community of monthly givers and advocates, committed for the long haul to ending sexual abuse and exploitation at its roots.
Will you become a Defender today to fund lawsuits for people like Jane and John, and other high-impact projects to end sexual exploitation?
Gratefully,
Become a Defender
