Newsweek conducted an analysis of voter intensity and found that the Republican 'base' is increasingly motivated to support Republican Earle-Sears in her challenge to the better-funded Democrat Abigail Spanberger.  Newsweek found that in both the Virginia and New Jersey gubernatorial races, GOP voters are more excited about their candidates than Democrat voters are with theirs:
