I know you’re hearing a lot from candidates like me, John.
So today, I want to share part of my story with you. I hope you read my message the whole way through, but if you’re short on time and want to support my re-election efforts, you can
chip in $3.
I am a proud husband and father. When I think about why I first decided to run for Congress, I think about my two kids – specifically, my daughter Maya.
I’ll never forget the moment, eight years ago now although it feels like yesterday, when Maya came home from kindergarten telling me about her day. Instead of sharing what you might expect from a five-year-old, she told me about the special “exercises” they had practiced.
While she didn't quite understand the concept at the time, she was describing an active shooter drill.
Thinking back on it now, my heart still sinks – as a father, and now as Congressman. It’s unacceptable that our kids and families grow up in a country where gun violence seems around the corner wherever you are, whether it’s at school, place of worship, or a movie theater.
Moments like those spurred me to action. I wasn’t a career politician, but I knew I had to take a stand for our community in CA-27 – and with your help, I was one of only a few Democrats who flipped Republican-held seats in November.
Now, I’m facing my first re-election campaign. The GOP is already lining up behind one of my challengers and spending big to air misleading ads about me.
I’m in this fight to make life better for all of our families – that includes curbing gun violence, protecting health care and reproductive rights, fighting against rising costs, and much more.
If you’re with me, $3 or any amount you can give today would go a long way toward hitting our end-of-quarter goal and protecting this seat.
