John, The Trump administration is threatening repressive action to stifle the voices of people and nonprofits they don’t agree with. But we have a chance to stop this in Congress. Last week, a group of Democratic leaders introduced the NOPE (No Political Enemies) Act, which would protect and uphold free speech for individuals and organizations. Exercise your right to speak out! Send a message to your members of Congress urging them to support the NOPE Act.

Trump and his lackeys are exploiting the horrible assassination of Charlie Kirk and using it as an excuse to silence their critics. We saw this in how the FCC went after Jimmy Kimmel and continued threats to go after news outlets and organizations that criticize the administration. The NOPE Act would prevent Trump and federal agencies from punishing individuals and organizations based on their beliefs. This bill would protect media outlets, educational institutions, political organizations, and nonprofits like Food & Water Action. This legislation ensures that federal agencies cannot be misused to silence or retaliate against those who exercise protected speech. It also: Deters government officials from abusing their power by making clear there will be consequences for violating civil rights laws. Provides tools so that individuals wrongly targeted can defend themselves in court, with fair access to evidence and coverage of legal costs. Establishes due process protections for U.S. nonprofits wrongly branded as criminal or terrorist organizations. Improves transparency and accountability in federal agencies to ensure misconduct is exposed and addressed.

By passing the NOPE Act, Congress can make it clear that no American should ever fear retaliation from their own government simply for speaking out. It reaffirms what our Constitution has always guaranteed: that no president or federal agency can weaponize government power against people or organizations simply for disagreeing with the administration. Take action today: Protect our democracy by urging your legislator to support the NOPE Act.
Onward together,
