Dear Jack,

I’m excited to share that I published an article in the Washington Examiner this week.

In it, I argue that controlling institutions, particularly the administrative state, is as critical as winning elections. Despite Republicans winning the White House 11 times since the New Deal, public policy has steadily shifted leftward, with expanding welfare programs, increased economic and environmental regulations, greater government intervention in the economy, and the rise of federally sanctioned DEI initiatives. It often feels as though the left maintains control regardless of who holds office.

The administrative state—a left-leaning, unelected bureaucracy—has consistently driven policy leftward. We must address how to control it.

I also highlight how Republican appointees to the federal bureaucracy are often “captured” by the system, diluting conservative outcomes.

President Trump’s second term is actively dismantling the administrative state through executive orders, job cuts, and regulatory rollbacks. Recent Supreme Court rulings, such as West Virginia v. EPA (2022), are also curbing bureaucratic overreach and shifting power back to the states.

Additionally, I emphasize that states, not federal agencies, drive innovative policies like school choice and tax reform. This is why I’m proud to work at the state level with the Mississippi Center for Public Policy.
