Have you heard about the EU Mercosur Trade Agreement? Our colleagues at the Environmental Pillar of the Irish Environmental Network and Climate Action Network Europe are working together to ensure our voices are heard at an EU level to push back against this disastrous deal for the health of the forests in the Amazon and climate, small-scale farmers, and indigenous land-owners.

Negotiated for more than 25 years behind closed doors, this outdated and secretive trade deal lacks any public participation or scrutiny. The EU-Mercosur deal will increase trade in products such as meat, soy, and dangerous pesticides banned in the EU. These products are major drivers of climate change, deforestation, biodiversity loss and fuel land grabbing of indigenous people territories.

We must do everything we can to ensure that all decision-makers understand what is at stake and what impact the agreement will have on people, the environment, economic structures and social cohesion.
