We’re reaching out to ask you to make a contribution ahead of our September 30 FEC deadline. But before we ask, you deserve an explanation.
Now that James is running for the U.S. Senate, our campaign has to regularly report our fundraising numbers to the Federal Election Commission. It’s about transparency, so the public can see who is funding these Senate campaigns.
That’s great. We’re proud to show the world that this is a true grassroots campaign. We’re funded by the people, not corporate PACs.
But the numbers we report are also analyzed by the media and our opponents. They’ll be judging if our movement has what it takes to beat the billionaire mega-donors and their puppet politicians. A weak report means they write us off.
We cannot let that happen. We need to send a message loud and clear that the people are behind James. We need to put in the work now to have the resources and grassroots organizing power to win this campaign.
Look, most people wouldn’t try to launch a campaign 21 days before an FEC deadline.
Most insiders would tell a candidate to give themselves as much time as possible. They say you need weeks and weeks of calling mega donors to raise as much money as possible.
But James doesn’t follow the DC playbook. He doesn’t do things like a typical politician.
If we’re going to win, it will require taking risks.
He believed in our movement. And he took a leap of faith that you would have his back when it mattered. That even with a short amount of time, we could do big things.
