Ohio Governor Mike DeWine Week in Review

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and Ohio Department of Children and Youth Director Kara Wente announced the launch of the Child Care Cred Program, a $10 million program making child care more affordable for working families while helping Ohio businesses strengthen their workforce.
The program was created through Ohio’s SFY26–SFY27 biennial budget and is designed to tackle one of the state’s biggest workforce challenges: access to affordable child care.
“The new Child Care Cred Program is designed to help Ohio’s families get access to childcare,” said Governor DeWine. “And, when parents have quality childcare, Ohio’s employers have productive employees who are not worried about their kids during work. It is a win for Ohio’s working families and for businesses.”
Ohio Lt. Governor Jim Tressel visited Ridgewood Middle School in Coshocton County for an assembly for students taking on the Team Tressel Fitness Challenge.
The challenge was created as part of Governor Mike DeWine's efforts to make Ohioans healthier and help every person live up to their full potential. Led by Lt. Governor Tressel, the challenge runs for 90 days to help students in grades four through eight form healthy habits in fitness, sleep, and nutrition through individual goal setting.
More than 182,000 students in over 700 schools statewide are participating in the challenge.

 Gov. DeWine greets Centrus CEO Amir Vexler.
Governor DeWine joined Centrus Energy CEO Amir Vexler, U.S. Senator Jon Husted, U.S. Congressman Dave Taylor, JobsOhio, Ohio Southeast Economic Development (OhioSE), and Pike County Economic Development to announce plans for a major expansion of Centrus’ uranium enrichment plant in Piketon, Ohio. The expansion is expected to create 1,000 construction jobs and approximately 300 new operations jobs at the Piketon site, while retaining 127 existing jobs, boosting Low-Enriched Uranium (LEU) and High-Assay, Low-Enriched Uranium (HALEU) production.
The announcement was made today at the Ross County Employment Expo in Chillicothe, where Centrus is meeting with potential job candidates.
“Centrus’ commitment to expand and upgrade its Piketon facility underscores Ohio’s importance in supporting our nation’s economic and national security,” said Governor DeWine. “Uranium enrichment operations in Piketon have played a critical role in U.S. national defense since the earliest days of the Cold War, and Centrus’ facility provides the only technology available today capable of building out domestic enrichment at an industrial scale.”

Governor DeWine announced that Ohio is one of five states selected by the Trump Administration for a new pilot program that will help individuals overcome barriers to employment and move from public assistance to self-sufficiency. Ohio was chosen for the pilot by the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) through its Administration for Children and Families (ACF) for the purpose of finding innovative approaches to promote work and reduce government dependency.
“Every day in Ohio, we are working to help people reach their full potential. Part of that mission is to make sure those who need a job are supported in finding a job and placed on a pathway toward financial independence,” said Governor DeWine. “Through this pilot, we will help more Ohioans overcome barriers to employment, achieve self-sufficiency, and build the foundation for a brighter future. I thank the Trump Administration for entrusting Ohio as one of just five states to carry out this important work.”
