Email from Rep. Van Duyne   Washington, D.C. – Texas-24 is home to thousands of veterans who continue to serve our community in countless ways. Help us honor them with a Congressional Veteran Commendation. Nominations are open until October 17th! Learn more on my website, here. I had the chance to join a roundtable in Grapevine to hear from local business leaders on how the working families tax cuts are helping them grow, hire, and innovate across North Texas. I enjoyed being with Naterra for the ribbon cutting of their new facility in Fort Worth. Naterra is truly an example of the American dream and a shining example of the success of American-based manufacturing, as they have been producing products in the U.S. since 1922. Our office hosted a special celebration for the students who completed Beth’s Bookworms this summer. Each student was asked to track books they read over the summer, they all had to log at least 5, with many logging well over that! Thank you to all who participated! Each student who completed the program was able to take home a book selected from the Library of Congress Surplus Books Program. I joined AARP for a telephone town hall where we discussed what we are doing in Congress to protect, conserve, and strengthen Social security. If you are experiencing any troubles with social security, we are here to help, please connect with our incredible district team who does an outstanding job helping people work through Social Security issues and casework. In the past year, we have helped secure over $550,000 in benefits for social security recipients, and since 2020 we have helped constituents get over $2.7 million in benefits. We are still accepting applications for the Congressional Youth Advisory Summit! This is a leadership opportunity for high school students in Texas-24, we challenge students to think critically and assess the role of the federal government and how it relates here in our North Texas community. For more information, visit my website here. I joined my friend Congressman Jim Costa in introducing the Ian Kalvinskas Pediatric Liver Cancer Early Detection and Screening Act, which is in honor of his former intern, who sadly lost his life to cancer this July. Texas-24 Work of the Week I urged the FDA to protect patient access to Desiccated Thyroid Extract (DTE), a treatment that has been in hypothyroidism care for over a century. Patients deserve certainty, not confusion, about their care. Read the letter here. Texas-24 Hometown Hero This week’s Texas-24 Hometown Heroes are the men and women, past and present, who have served in the Irving Fire Department over the last 100 years. Since 1925, they have kept North Texas safe and continue to inspire future generations. Congressional App Challenge Registration is now open for the 2025 Congressional App Challenge! Middle and high school students are invited to submit an original app for a chance to win our district specific challenge! The competition deadline is October 30th, so get building!!
