John,
Last week, Congresswoman Lauren Boebert teamed up with her Republican colleagues from the Colorado delegation, Gabe Evans, and Jeff Crank (he’s a crank), in signing a letter to Governor Jared Polis claiming that Colorado is in the midst of a “massive crime crisis.”
They claim that things have gotten so bad that the Colorado State legislature needs to go into an emergency special legislative session to address it.
Based on the picture painted by Boebert and her colleagues in the letter you would think:
Denver has fallen and has descended into Mad Max style post-apocalyptic violence
MS-13 has seized power in Douglas County and is conducting executions at the Castle Rock outlets
Boulder is in the midst of a bloody gang war
But here’s the truth: crime rates in Colorado are not “massive” — in fact, they’ve been trending down. But Boebert doesn’t want you to know that. She’s more interested in fearmongering, because stoking fear is easier than doing the hard work of solving problems.
Colorado deserves better than fake manufactured crises. We need leaders who will tackle real issues — lowering costs for families, improving education, and protecting our freedoms — not politicians who spread misinformation to scare the hell out of their constituents and cover up their own failures.
Trisha Calvarese is the Democrat running to replace Boebert and she will lead with facts, not fear.
