A Message from Gabe:
Greetings Rhode Islanders,
Republican policies have our country on the brink of a government shutdown and thousands of Rhode Islanders on the verge of losing their health care. Last Friday, I voted NO on another partisan bill that would jack up the health care costs of Americans. The Republican bill did not extend the health insurance tax credits that help more than 22 million working families afford coverage through the Affordable Care Act, including 40,000 Rhode Islanders who could see their health care costs go up by 85% or more. This is just Republicans' latest policy attacking Americans' health care. Republicans' Big, Ugly Law will rip health care coverage away from over 16 million people.
Their bad bill went to the Senate, where it failed. Unfortunately, after agreeing to meet with Democratic Leaders Schumer and Jeffries, President Donald Trump cancelled the meeting. Democrats are ready to negotiate on a bipartisan plan to save millions of Americans’ access to health care and prevent a federal government shutdown. As a reminder: Republicans control the House, the Senate, and the White House. They are in a position to take action to keep government open and ensure that millions of Americans do not lose their health care.

From Central Falls to Cranston, Congressman Amo details his efforts to avert a shutdown.
Yesterday, I gathered with health care providers, patients, and community leaders at Blackstone Valley Community Health Care in Central Falls to hear from Rhode Islanders who will be hit hardest by Republicans' policies refusing to help Americans afford their monthly health insurance premiums. I also visited Family Health Services of Cranston with Representative Seth Magaziner to demand Republicans extend cost-saving health insurance tax credits that help Americans afford health care. |
If Congress fails to extend health insurance tax credits, millions of Americans will face impossible choices, forcing many to forgo needed care. |
Despite Republicans cancelling the legislative sessions on September 29th and September 30th, right before the lapse in government funding, I’ll be in Washington making the case for action to address the pressing needs of Rhode Islanders. |
Sincerely, |

Should Congressional leaders come to the table to lower costs for Americans' health care? |

Defending Rhode Island's Legacy |
This week, I led a letter with Rep. Seth Magaziner demanding that the leaders of the House Appropriations Committee preserve the dignity and purpose of the Workforce Pell Grant and oppose renaming the grants after President Trump. |
Named after its creator, Rhode Island Senator Claiborne Pell, Workforce Pell Grants help break down barriers to higher education and trade school. Whenever Senator Pell was asked about his greatest achievement, he would always respond without hesitation: “Pell Grants.” |
Republicans' new funding proposal, however, includes a provision to change the Workforce Pell Grant’s name to so-called “Trump Grants.” |
In stark contrast to Senator Pell’s steadfast commitment to education, President Trump’s record includes policies to bypass Congress to unlawfully dismantle the Department of Education, freeze federal education and research funding, and pressure schools to roll back key initiatives, including those focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion. |
Senator Pell was a visionary public servant who believed deeply in the power of education to transform lives. His legacy lives on in the millions of students, many of them first generation college students, whose lives have been shaped by the opportunities that Pell Grants provide. |
Preserving Senator Pell’s name on the program is not just about honoring the past; it is about protecting a future where every student, regardless of background, has the chance to dream big and achieve more. |

Proud to speak with constituents and help kick off Warren’s town-wide celebration of our nation’s 250th birthday at the George Hail Library.
Now more than ever, our nation must uplift our history and recommit to the values that inspired our founding. I will continue that work in Congress.

Congratulations to high school senior Andres Gil for his Barrington Public Library exhibit exploring his family’s harrowing journey from Cuba to the United States!
I know Andres' reflection on his family's immigration resonates across the many communities that make Rhode Island strong.

Countering Trump's Policies in the Courts |
The Trump administration's policies are being challenged and overturned in court. Americans have filed over 400 lawsuits against the Administration, and judges have partially or fully blocked over 138 of Trump's executive actions. |
Recent Courtroom Wins: |
✅ RHODE ISLAND WIND PROJECT RESUMES CONSTRUCTION — A federal judge allowed construction to proceed on the Revolution Wind project, which would lower energy costs and support good-paying jobs in Rhode Island. |
✅ AMICUS BRIEF TO PROTECT TEMPORARY PROTECTED STATUS (TPS) — I filed an amicus brief in federal court, alongside 90 of my colleagues, to defend TPS for Haitians in the United States who are fleeing violence. |
✅ RHODE ISLAND JUDGE STOPS TRUMP ADMIN FROM CONDITIONING DISASTER AID — A Rhode Island judge prevented the Trump administration from only providing relief for natural disasters to cities or states who go along with Trump's authoritarian immigration policies. |

Improving Artificial Intelligence Literacy for K-12 Students |
Today, I introduced the Literacy in Future Technologies (LIFT) Artificial Intelligence Act, a bipartisan bill that would improve artificial intelligence literacy for students, alongside Congressman Tom Kean, Jr. (R-NJ). |
Artificial intelligence (AI) is the future, and so are our students, so we need to make sure every child in K-12 schools has the tools to understand, use, and develop next generation AI tech I am proud to work across the aisle on this bipartisan bill to invest in — and expand — AI literacy education in the classroom. |
The LIFT AI Act would make sure the next generation of students have the skills they need to responsibly use this technology, regardless of the career they decide to pursue. |
