I’m writing to ask you to make a $3 contribution to my re-election campaign before Tuesday’s FEC fundraising deadline. But before I do, I hope you’ll allow me to explain why this moment is so critical for our fundraising.

The truth is, whether we like it or not this FEC report will be used to determine our campaign’s strength. Every Washington “insider”, every consultant, and you can certainly believe every super PAC will be looking for signs to ramp up spending in our race.

And friend, I get it, this all sounds a bit silly. I didn’t come from a world of massive donations, “bundling” donations, or hours of call time before this. I served our district for two decades as our meteorologist, and when this seat opened up I saw a chance to serve people in our region even more directly.

Unfortunately, Citizens United opened up pockets of dark money that groups like Republican leadership continue to use liberally to try and game the system, and handpick the people in districts like IL-17. And it means that fundraising reports are treated as winnability.

With your help, I’ve fended off outside groups each of the past two cycles. But for all of us, it would be wonderful if enough supporters could step up now to show such overwhelming support that we get to spend 2026 going on offense instead of defense.
