Dear John,

I’m sure many of you have either seen or heard about President Trump and HHS Secretary Kennedy’s press conference this week where they discussed unfounded theories of a causal link between the use of Tylenol (also known as acetaminophen) during pregnancy and autism. During the event, President Trump encouraged pregnant women to just “tough it out” when ill, rather than take the only over-the-counter fever reducer deemed safe for pregnant women.

Folks, this is just so wrong in so many ways. First of all, a group of men (most of whom have zero medical background) are the last people on earth who should EVER be telling women to power through pregnancy unaided. Secondly, as a mother of an adult son on the autism spectrum, I have serious concerns with the dangerous rhetoric President Trump and Secretary Kennedy are using to talk about autism. Finally, I am appalled by this Administration’s complete disregard for science.

There is no conclusive evidence to suggest that taking Tylenol during pregnancy is dangerous. There is, however, strong evidence that untreated high fever during pregnancy can be incredibly dangerous to both the baby and the mother. But perhaps we shouldn’t expect the President to know that about a drug whose name he can’t even pronounce.

At the end of the day, this stunt is just another example of the Administration turning a blind eye to science and misleading the American people. And of course, women and families are taking the hit. The Trump Administration has shown a complete disregard for women’s health.

They’re coming after a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions, writing op-eds about how women should focus on having kids instead of careers – all while  their policies are making it more and more dangerous and unaffordable for women start a family.

Secretary Kennedy is a threat to public health, and that’s why I called for him to resign earlier this month. As long as RFK is leading the Department of Health and Human Services, I won’t stop fighting this Administration’s dangerous health policies.

Here’s what else I’ve been up to:

It was an honor to welcome Farm Aid to Minnesota for the first time last weekend! There’s nothing like coming together over great music for a great cause — supporting the family farmers who feed the world. And as the top Democrat on the House Agriculture Committee, I got to introduce the legendary Wynonna Judd!

This week, Cheryl and I also had the chance to catch the Lynx game! It was great to cheer on our favorite players (mine is Courtney Williams). This year... we’re taking back what the Liberty stole from us in the playoffs!
