It’s not often you can look around and realize you are living through a pivotal moment in American history.

But here we are.

The very foundations of our democracy — fair representation, good-faith debate, the rule of law — are being chipped away right before our eyes. And it’s all in service of politicians’ relentless pursuit of power.

From Missouri to Texas, anti-democracy forces are trying to tip the scales of our democracy because they know Americans want something different than what they’re getting now.

They know they’ve violated the will of the people they serve — and if it’s left up to the voters, they’ll lose their political power. But rather than change their approach to governing, rather than work on delivering real results for their constituents, they’re instead trying to manipulate the rules to help them cling to power.

That’s not leading. It’s cheating.

When you ask most Americans, they’ll tell you it’s wrong and shouldn’t be allowed. But it’s clear that it doesn’t matter one lick to those who are hell-bent on sacrificing our nation’s great history and institutions for their own political ambitions.

If it all sounds too bleak, if it feels like a foregone conclusion, here’s a reason for hope: This chapter of history is still being written, and there are millions of Americans standing in their way. Together, this grassroots team is fighting back to defend our democracy and make sure the will of the people still matters most.
