Dear Neighbor,
Every fall, I plant tulip, daffodil, and hyacinth bulbs and look forward to them blossoming in the spring. In some ways, this autumn ritual reminds me of working in Congress: you put forward legislation in the hopes it turns into a law that will improve our communities down the road.
I wish I could say the Republicans who control all of the federal government were fond of this kind of long-term planning for the betterment of the country. Unfortunately, they've put us on a fast track to shut down the federal government next week and are sending the nation careening further into a health care crisis. They’ve slashed Medicaid, jacked up your health care rates, and blocked Americans from accessing lifesaving vaccines.
To fight back, I’ve introduced legislation that would reverse the devastating Republican cuts to Medicaid and restore tax credits for people who get health care through the Affordable Care Act. I’ve also introduced a bill that would protect free access to vaccines. Together my bills represent a road toward a healthier future for everyone.
You can hear all the latest updates about what I'm doing to stand up to reckless Congressional Republicans (and get some of my fall gardening tips!) in the video below.
