September 27 marks the first official day for hunting ruffed grouse (partridge) and other small game, such as gray squirrel and snowshoe hare, here in Maine. Open water fishing also remains open under General Fishing Law through the end of the month allowing hunters and anglers the opportunity to combine some of their favorite outdoor activities.
The ruffed grouse offers a unique hunting experience which can both thrill and challenge the novice and expert alike. So, if you have already had some success chasing these acrobatic wonders from highlands to hollows, please consider taking someone who is new to the sport or has perhaps never been. This is the perfect occasion to share your passion for the outdoors and inspire others to their own future adventures.
