Forest Recreation Ground

Ten days of funfair magic are in store at the Forest Recreation Ground, as Goose Fair opens its gates at 4pm today! You'll find exciting new rides including Skyfall, the world’s tallest portable drop tower, and all the Goose Fair classics like Starflyer, Magic Mouse, Waltzers, Gallopers, Dodgems, and the Cake Walk, plus dozens of side-show games and attractions.

Food is always a highlight at the fair and along with the traditional fairground favourites of mushy peas and Cocks-on-Sticks, visitors will be able to eat their way around the world with a diverse range of food.

SEND sessions will take place on Sundays from 12pm-1pm, allowing children and people with special educational needs and disabilities to enjoy the fair without the loud noises and bright lights.

The *Homemade Cafe* [ [link removed] ] and *Forest Sports Zone [ [link removed] ]* at the Forest Recreation Ground will be open as usual during the fair.

It's easy to get to the Forest Recreation Ground by tram, bus, or bicycle. Blue Badge parking is available for £10 per car - there is no other public vehicle parking permitted on site. Visitors are not permitted to park on residential streets in the area, and this will be strictly enforced with extra patrols planned this year. *Read more about how to get to Goose Fair. Please note that CCTV will be in operation. Security staff supported by Nottinghamshire Police will ensure a safe event for everyone attending.

Good luck to everyone taking part in the Robin Hood Half Marathon and Mini Marathon on Sunday!

Starting and finishing at Victoria Embankment, the Half Marathon passes iconic Nottingham landmarks including The Park, Nottingham Castle, and Wollaton Hall. Why not pick a point along the route to cheer them on? 

The race begins at 9.30am, and there will be a number of *road closures [ [link removed] ]* around the city which will also affect some *trentbarton [ [link removed] ]* and *Nottingham City Transport [ [link removed] ] *bus services.

There's only one week left to experience the FOREST temporary exhibition at Nottingham Castle. FOREST delves into the myth and magic of arboreal art, exploring how this timeless and powerful totem can shape artistic thought and creative practices.

The exhibition showcases six newly commissioned works created exclusively for Nottingham Castle, in the company of prints, drawings and photographs from Nottingham’s own Collection, including the iconic, large-scale painting of the Major Oak (1882) by Nottingham-born artist Andrew MacCallum (1821-1902).

Join It's in Nottingham for a day of ghostly delights, family fun, and Halloween magic at the Monster Mash! Enjoy music and dancing in the bandstand with a family-friendly DJ, free face painting for kids, spooky games, crafts, and tasty treats from food and drink stalls.

The Strolling Bones Parade will also be providing some hair-raising fun. This eerie yet playful walkabout performance, created by Walk the Plank, features lively skeleton puppets dancing to the infectious sounds of the Fat Cat Brass Band.

Tickets go on sale on Monday 29 September at 10am, priced at £2 per adult and £1 per child (plus booking fees).

The Inspire Poetry Festival is back with a week of wonderful words, including performances, workshops, exhibitions and film screenings. Whether you’re already a poetry reader, writer, student or teacher, or a complete newcomer, come and celebrate words and poetry in the welcoming surroundings of your libraries.

Take part in workshops with the groundbreaking Beyond the Spectrum project, which creates space for neurodivergent people, and explore the lives of Black dancers through poetry with Black British Ballet. The brilliant Romalyn Ante also returns to the festival for a workshop and performance.
