Hegseth Orders Hundreds of Top Military Commanders to Washington Meeting
No word yet on what the meeting is about, but it must be something big. All top military commanders in the US military are being ordered to fly to Washington for a meeting with Secretary of War Pete Hegseth. Fox News: A meeting of this size and scope is highly unusual and would usually take place on a secure video teleconference — around 800 generals and admirals are spread across the U.S. and world. The lack of details surrounding the gathering has some fearing a looming purge. War Secretary Pete Hegseth has previously said he wants to cut 20% of senior generals and admirals. The order, first reported by The Washington Post, applies to senior officers with the rank of brigadier general or above or their Navy equivalent and their top enlisted advisers. In May, Hegseth issued a directive to slash about 100 generals and admirals, along with a “minimum” 20% cut to four-star officers. He ordered an additional 10% reduction in general and flag officers across the military. ( Fox News) Fox’s speculation that there is a connection between downsizing the brass and this meeting is just that—speculation. But it is an interesting bit of context, and no doubt some of the attendees will be paying special attention because of it. Read more at Townhall.

Look Out, Soros, Justice Is Coming
The Department of Justice, that is. Whether cosmic justice also comes to George the Elder has yet to be seen. New York Times: A senior Justice Department official has instructed more than a half dozen U.S. attorneys’ offices to draft plans to investigate a group funded by George Soros, the billionaire Democratic donor who President Trump has demanded be thrown in jail. The official’s directive, a copy of which was viewed by The New York Times, goes as far as to list possible charges prosecutors could file, ranging from arson to material support of terrorism. The memo suggests department leaders are following orders from the president that specific people or groups be subject to criminal investigation — a major break from decades of past practice meant to insulate the Justice Department from political interference. The move is the latest instance of the Justice Department moving against Mr. Trump’s perceived enemies. ( New York Times) If you think you imagined a bunch of editorializing in that “reporting,” let me assure you that the rest of the piece reads like something from the Opinion Page as well. The reality is simpler: Soros’ Open Society Foundation appears to funnel money to terrorist groups, and the Department of Justice is looking into it. Hat tip to Ryan Mauro, who exposed Soros’ connections to violent terrorists. ( X, Capital Research Center)

Look Out Comey, Justice Is Coming
When it rains, it pours. Or, in this case, when manna falls from heaven, it does so in large enough quantities to satisfy even a hungry man’s appetite. Fox News: Former FBI Director James Comey was indicted by a grand jury on two counts, alleged false statements within jurisdiction of the legislative branch and obstruction of congressional proceeding, Fox News Digital has learned. Fox News Digital exclusively reported in July that Comey was under criminal investigation by the FBI. The probe into Comey centered on whether he lied to Congress during his Sept. 30, 2020, testimony about his handling of the original Trump–Russia probe at the FBI, known inside the bureau as “Crossfire Hurricane.” “No one is above the law,” said Attorney General Pam Bondi on X. “Today’s indictment reflects this Department of Justice’s commitment to holding those who abuse positions of power accountable for misleading the American people. We will follow the facts in this case.” ( Fox News) The Department of Justice is busy these days, and Daybreak can think of few worthier targets of interest than former FBI Director James Comey and George Soros. We think of many more who are AS worthy, of course, but more worthy? We’ll have to think about it. Read more from John Sexton of Hot Air ( Hot Air) and Bob Hoge of RedState ( Red State).

Texas ICE Shooter’s Motive Confirmed, and Democrats Try to Muddy the Waters
It took about 5 minutes of reading and a couple of tweets from FBI Director Kash Patel to conclude that the Texas ICE shooter was a left-wing anti-ICE lunatic, but Democrats and the media have bent over backward to confuse the issue. They still will try, but the evidence is overwhelming that the killer hated ICE. Townhall’s own Matt Vespa pulled no punches. Townhall: Again, we knew what motivated Joshua Jahn, 29, to attack an ICE facility in Dallas, Texas. He scaled a rooftop and opened fire into the facility. He was targeting federal vehicles, killing two detainees and injuring another before committing suicide. That was not his intention. In a press conference held by authorities this afternoon, Acting United States Attorney Nancy E. Larson said Jahn wished to “maximize lethality against ICE personnel and maximize damage at that facility.” He aimed to terrorize ICE employees, who he felt collected a dirty paycheck. For hours, we were subjected to abject lunacy from the liberal media, its equally braindead pundit class, and other influencers, claiming we couldn’t possibly know the motive of this attack. It’s not hard, you clowns. He wrote anti-ICE messages on the ammunition. The breadcrumbs were everywhere, but because the Left lacks critical thinking and deductive powers, they humiliated themselves. Now, they took it in the mouth, and rightfully so. ( Townhall) Daybreak is still amazed at the capacity of media folks and liberals to lie without remorse.

Democrats Walking Into Government Shutdown Trap
The Democrats apparently want to force a government shutdown, largely because they think they can win the rhetorical war over who is responsible. They generally have since the Clinton era, and they are betting they can again. Also, they reflexively oppose anything Trump wants. But it is, as with most things Trump, a trap. New York Times: The Office of Management and Budget told federal agencies late Wednesday to use the opportunity of a potential shutdown “to consider Reduction in Force” notices to lay off federal employees. The White House also told agency leaders to focus on eliminating positions where funding had expired, or could not be sourced under other laws, and had been deemed to be “not consistent” with President Trump’s political agenda. The government is set to shut down on Oct. 1 unless lawmakers are able to break their impasse and reach a deal to keep federal funds flowing. Democrats who have blocked a Republican-written stopgap spending extension have said they will not allow any such legislation to move forward unless it also includes more than $1 trillion to continue Obamacare subsidies that are set to expire in December and reverse cuts to Medicaid and other health programs that Republicans made over the summer. Senator Chuck Schumer, Democrat of New York and the minority leader, called the White House memo “an attempt at intimidation.” “Donald Trump has been firing federal workers since day one — not to govern, but to scare,” Mr. Schumer said in a statement. “This is nothing new and has nothing to do with funding the government. These unnecessary firings will either be overturned in court or the administration will end up hiring the workers back, just like they did as recently as today.” ( New York Times) Daybreak agrees that Trump is trying to intimidate the Democrats, but despite their claims, Trump doesn’t chicken out. He will fire bureaucrats, and love doing it. Some may or may not get their jobs back after a time, but that will be no comfort to those who don’t, or even those forced to wait months to be reinstated.

Trump: Israel Cannot Annex West Bank
There has been some talk about Israel annexing the Gaza Strip, although that seems to be only a remote possibility. But as far as Daybreak knows, any talk of annexing the West Bank has been little more than a negotiating point to give Arab states a perceived win when Israel backs down. The renewed chatter about the West Bank annexation may be another example of that. In any case, Trump has promised Arab leaders that the US would prevent any attempt by Israel to do so. POLITICO: President Donald Trump promised Arab and Muslim leaders during a meeting Tuesday that he would not allow Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to annex the West Bank, according to six people familiar with the discussion. Two of those people said that Trump was firm on the topic and that the president promised that Israel would not be allowed to absorb the West Bank, which is governed by the Palestinian Authority, not Hamas. Another one of the people familiar with the talks noted that, despite Trump’s assurance, a ceasefire to end Israel’s nearly two-year war against Hamas was nowhere close to fruition. Two others familiar with the matter said Trump and his team presented a white paper outlining the administration’s plan to end the war, including the annexation promise and other details such as governance and postwar security. ( POLITICO) Daybreak thinks this is good cop/bad cop theater, and also gives a “win” for Arab leaders who need to look tough on Israel.

Abigail Spanberger Preaches ‘Rage’ to Her Democratic Base
Abigail Spanberg, the Democratic Party candidate for governor in Virginia, is not a moderate, but she plays one on TV. But when she is talking exclusively to Democrats at rallies, she preaches that they should let their “rage” fuel them. David Strom at Hot Air: In the midst of a leftist violence spree that has left a number of people dead and injured, and after years of left-wing violence erupting into riots that got applause from the Democratic Party establishment, she is preaching “rage.” Over the past few weeks, the former CIA agent and Congresswoman has made a number of interesting moves, either hinting that she holds very left-wing positions or outright endorsing radical policies. Now she is preaching “rage.” Charlie Kirk was murdered. A radical left-wing activist gunned down migrants at ICE facilities. Antifa attacks on ICE, attempting to assassinate ICE agents. A wave of leftists is making lists of conservatives to be assassinated. And Spanberger’s message is simple: let your rage fuel your political activism. ( Hot Air) Democrats are talking like this because their base demands it. As Axios reported weeks ago, the Democratic Party base is telling Congressmen that “there needs to be blood.” ( Axios)

Dearborn Mayor Says He’s Not Sorry He Told Christian Minister He’s Not Welcome in His City
A few days back, we reported on the Mayor of Dearborn, Michigan, telling one of his citizens that he was not welcome in the city because he disagreed with a decision to honor a Hezbollah jihad advocate. The outburst sparked outrage, and everybody expected that the mayor would apologize for his intemperate outburst. Well, everybody was wrong. New York Post: At Dearborn, Michigan’s first city council meeting since his clash with a local Christian minister went viral after a heated exchange over a controversial honorary street sign naming, Mayor Abdullah Hammoud declined to apologize for his saying the minister was “not welcome here” and that he would “launch a parade” when he left town. Ted Barham, the same Christian minister, opened his remarks at Tuesday’s meeting by repeating the words that went viral at the previous one on Sept. 9. “The mayor, in a way, cursed me, as was seen around the world. And I would like to repeat what I said that day to you, Mr. Mayor: ‘God bless you,’” Barham said. The mayor had a response, which was basically to double down on his message: When Hammoud spoke later in the evening at the meeting, he did not answer the many calls for an apology or the demand for a specific denunciation. Instead, he said, Dearborn “represents the best of America” where “people of all backgrounds, of all faiths, and of all beliefs can live peacefully and respectfully as neighbors.” “For decades, people have been intent on dividing and disparaging our city,” Hammoud said. “Dearborn has never fallen for these divisive attempts. Back then and still now, Dearborn residents from every corner of this city have come together to shun hatred and to root it out of the place that we’re all proud to call home.” ( New York Post) Daybreak assumes that “rooting it out of the place” means that dissenters to celebrations of terrorists are welcome to leave.

Keith Olbermann Can’t Stop Being Keith Olbermann
Keith Olbermann is an odious man, but Daybreak has concluded that having to be Keith Olbermann is punishment enough for his many outrageous and incendiary comments. The New York Post reports that former colleagues are so worried about his mental health after he told Scott Jennings of CNN and Salem Media fame that he was “next” after Charlie Kirk’s assassination. New York Post: “ We thought for many years that he was losing it, and I say this honestly and out of concern for another human being,” said Sage Steele, a former ESPN anchor who previously worked with Olbermann at the network. She now hosts the Sage Steele Show on YouTube. “I think anyone who posts such hate as he often does and the language he uses, there’s something that’s not right,” she told The Post Tuesday. Keith Olbermann threatened CNN contributor Scott Jennings shortly after the death of Charlie Kirk. He later apologized after Jennings sent the threatening tweet to the FBI. “He needs some serious help,” added Steele. “It’s actually heartbreaking to see, especially for those of us who grew up watching him.” ( New York Post) Daybreak observes that it is both considered bad form and exceptionally stupid to publicly threaten the life of somebody for all the world to see. Beege Welborn of Hot Air has named an award after Olbermann called “The Keith Olbermann Award for Cranky Pathetic Unemployed Whiner Wuss Boys.” ( Hot Air)

Stephen Miller: There Is a ‘Whole of Government’ Effort to Dismantle Left-Wing Domestic Terror Networks
Trump signed his Executive Order classifying Antifa as a “Domestic Terror” organization, and Stephen Miller explained exactly what it means. Miller: “This is the first time in American history that there is an all-of-government effort to dismantle left-wing terrorism, to dismantle Antifa… This is part of an organized campaign of Radical Left terrorism.” ( Rapid Response 47 on X) Antifa is a modern, and much larger, version of The Weathermen from the 1960s, and is clearly engaged in an effort to terrorize Americans. Unfortunately, academia embraced The Weathermen, and Barack Obama launched his political career in the living room of Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn, suggesting that Antifa terrorists will be similarly lionized in the future.
