Jimmy Kimmel Live was yanked off the air after the FCC Chairman threatened ABC over a joke Kimmel made about the MAGA movement exploiting Charlie Kirk’s death.

Think about that: one comment from a late-night host, and an entire show — along with the jobs of stagehands, camera operators, writers, and crew — vanished overnight.

Now, while ABC has decided to put Kimmel back on the air, Trump’s intimidation worked. Scores of local affiliates across the country still refuse to broadcast the show — silencing his voice and punishing the workers who make it possible.

For years, MAGA Republicans have shouted about “free speech” while spreading divisive rhetoric on TV, podcasts, and at rallies. But this Administration has made it clear: free speech only applies if you echo Donald Trump’s message.

That’s why I took action. As the top Democrat on the Communications & Technology Subcommittee of the House Energy & Commerce Committee, I led the call for the Inspector General to investigate the FCC Chairman’s abuse of power, and I’ve spoken out at hearings to expose how this Administration is weaponizing the FCC against its critics.

We’ve seen dictatorships censor media abroad. Now, we’re watching it unfold here at home — with threats to revoke broadcast licenses being used as a political weapon.
