I truly believe that in the wealthiest nation on earth, the time and ability to get care should not be a matter of luck.
When my husband Andy was battling cancer, we were lucky.
Lucky to have the flexibility with our jobs that allowed him to focus on the full-time job of getting care — and me to focus on being there by his side through surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. To marry him and ultimately walk him to his passing.
And while Andy ultimately lost his life to cancer, up until his last breath, we both knew how lucky we were.
But I truly believe that in the wealthiest nation on earth, the time and ability to get care should not be a matter of luck.
That’s why I led the effort in the Delaware General Assembly to pass paid family and medical leave, and I was proud that we got it done with bipartisan support.
And now in Congress, I’m fighting to make that same protection a reality for every worker in this country. That’s what the FAMILY Act would do.
This legislation will guarantee dignity and peace of mind for workers and their families as they face the challenges of life — but I need your help as we work to build the support we need to pass it.
