BREAKING: The campaign to bring top two open primaries to
the voters of Oklahoma took a big step forward this
week!
Two major wins in court for the Yes on 836 campaign working to let all voters vote in the
Sooner State with an initiative petition on the 2026
ballot:
-
A unanimous decision of the Oklahoma
Supreme Court has rejected a constitutional challenge to State Question 836 and declared it can be
circulated for signatures. Campaign leaders expect the signature
gathering period to begin next month.
- The same
court halted implementation of a new law passed by the state
legislature that adds draconian restrictions on the state’s ballot
initiative process as it pertains to State Question 836. Since the
campaign had filed their initiative under previously existing state
law on the subject the Court found against any retroactive
application.
Both rulings mean one thing: Oklahoma is ground zero for
open primaries on the 2026 ballot.
Major kudos to Campaign Leader
Margaret Kobos for her leadership and persistence.
Yes on 836 is a campaign by and for
Oklahomans. Open Primaries has been a staunch partner of the campaign
from its inception and it’s a prime example of what’s possible when
you invest in local leadership and foster an environment where real
campaigns can emerge.
Oklahoma is just one example of the
local campaigns across the country that we’re working with and
investing in. We build
coalitions and engage voters. When that work evolves into a campaign,
we’re right there every step of the way to support local leaders and
help them win.
That’s what distinguishes Open Primaries, and demand for
our work is accelerating rapidly.
We hope you’ll give us serious
consideration and give towards our current fundraising campaign.
We’re just over $90,000 away
from hitting our goal of raising $250,000. Every dollar expands our
capacity to push forward.
