John, nowadays, it’s hard to imagine an overwhelming majority of Americans agreeing on…well…anything.
However, a great unifier across the political spectrum is rooting out corruption. That’s why members of both parties spend a lot of time accusing the other of being corrupt — and it works. But suddenly, when it’s time to stop pointing fingers and look in the mirror, some members of Congress get pretty quiet.
Lawmakers who have access to privileged information can use it to inform their trades on the stock market before everyday Americans even know anything is going on. This means they have a financial incentive to vote against the interests of their constituents to enrich themselves.

This is called congressional stock trading, and 86% of Americans across the political spectrum agree that it should be banned. Who would have thought that people in power selling out their constituents would be so unpopular?
Thankfully, there are some members of Congress who are ready to step up and ban the trade. While 1 in 5 members sit on a congressional committee for an industry they trade stocks in, only 53% of members own stock at all — and many of the remaining 47% are calling out their colleagues to end the practice altogether. Check out our video about it here:
We have momentum, and at Ban The Trade, we’re working to keep pressure on Congress to put a stop to this madness. We’ve already made historic progress getting members of Congress to support key legislation, but we’re not stopping until congressional stock trading is banned for good.
Thanks to support from people just like you, we’re closer than ever to finishing the job — but we need to keep up our efforts to get across the finish line. Will you join the team with a contribution of just $7 today?
Working towards a less corrupt future,
Ban The Trade
