One year ago today, Hurricane Helene made landfall – causing widespread damage in Florida and Georgia with catastrophic flooding across North Carolina, Tennessee and Kentucky. Power outages affected 4.5 million customers, and more than 250 lives were lost.
But thanks to supporters like you, Americares was able to deploy an emergency response team within 24 hours to assess the most urgent needs. In the first six months after the storm, we provided lifesaving care through our mobile medical unit, installed water filtration systems and delivered over 7 tons of medicine and supplies – including 1,300 bottles of infant formula, 3,800 tetanus vaccines, antibiotics and hygiene kits. We also provided over $1 million in emergency funding to 35 organizations across five states.
And our work continues. In May, Americares launched a new year-long mental health initiative to support first responders and health workers still grappling with the emotional toll of the devastation caused by the storm.
Below is the message we sent nearly one year ago as Americares responded to the devastating storm. We invite you to remember all those affected by Helene this past year – and to remember that communities around the world will continue to need your generosity.
In a world where natural disasters are more deadly than ever and resources are scarce, your support for this lifesaving work is essential. Please consider making a gift today to help power our ongoing work responding to crises and disasters in the United States and around the world.

Here’s the situation:
At least 100 people have been reported killed, and, sadly, this number is expected to rise
Millions are without power or access to clean water, causing great health and safety risk
Catastrophic flooding has wiped out homes and major roadways. Entire communities are devastated

Floodwaters from Hurricane Helene wiped out roads and highways in western North Carolina.
As you read this, Americares teams are on the ground in Georgia and Florida – with another team expected to arrive in North Carolina tomorrow – directing medicines and relief supplies to the communities that need them most. We are also providing emergency funding to get health services up and running again as quickly as possible.
But the needs are enormous. First responders and health care workers in the region are continuing to do all they can to help their communities, despite losing everything themselves.
These communities need as much support as we can give them, and they need it now. So please, will you rush $125 or more now to help deliver critical aid and hope to those facing the devastation of Hurricane Helene and other crises around the world?
