In the cybersecurity world, this type of cyberattack is known as an email bomb. A tactic where a malicious actor floods a victim's inbox with unwanted emails to overwhelm them, delay detection of more critical messages, or mask other harmful activities like phishing or malware deployment. Our cybersecurity administrator has checked in with numerous Democratic candidates and organizations, and thus far, the attack appears to be solely isolated to the staff of Defend Our Courts. Security scans of the email contents have identified malicious phishing links within them aimed at gaining access to sensitive passwords. At the time of our writing this email at 1:26 PM ET, the attack has not yet subsided, and we have urged our team to remain vigilant as the attack continues. Why is this happening to Defend Our Courts? While we have no idea who is behind it, Democratic candidates and organizations often report attacks like these in the run-up to elections. In our case, it likely has something to do with the work we are doing in the upcoming November 2025 Pennsylvania Supreme Court Election. If MAGA wins this election and takes control of this court, it means they can ensure Democrats never win this key swing state and its 19 electoral college votes again. Winning this race is thereby MAGA’s most important objective in 2025, and as one of the only Democratic organizations involved in this race, we stand directly in the way of them achieving it.
