*SEPT. 25, 2025* — The U.S. Census Bureau today released the 2023 Business Dynamics Statistics [ [link removed] ] (BDS). The data provide measures of business dynamics, such as job creation and destruction, establishment births and deaths, and firm startups and shutdowns for the economy overall and aggregated by establishment and firm characteristics. BDS is an annual time series spanning 1978 to 2023.

Data are available on the BDS [ [link removed] ] webpage, in the Census API [ [link removed] ], and in BDS Explorer [ [link removed] ]. The explorer tool provides access to the entire BDS dataset via line charts, bar charts and thematic maps. The application's intuitive dashboard allows data users to construct tables and charts for comparing and analyzing measures of business dynamics.
