Penny’s medical journey began when she was diagnosed with brain cancer – at just 13 months of age. To help Penny overcome her fears of treatment, her mother bought her a stuffed monkey “patient” and a toy doctor kit to play with.

Nearly two years of painful, invasive cancer treatment followed. Every day, Penny tended lovingly to her stuffed monkey just like the medical teams were taking care of her.
