John, The fight to protect Medicaid is no longer about what might happen in the future – the cuts are already here, and we are already seeing the impact.

Across the country, hospitals and clinics are closing, states are cutting Medicaid budgets, and the people who rely on Medicaid are left with few options. For example, in North Carolina, the state is reducing provider rates to Home and Community-Based Service agencies, this will lead to providers turning away older adults and disabled people and cut wages to direct care workers. In Virginia, three clinics are closing, citing decreased federal funding as the reason. In Georgia, at least one rural hospital is closing their labor and delivery units, while others are considering scaling back their services, leaving more families with even fewer options for care.

These decisions are leaving people who need care, caregivers, and families to make impossible choices. That’s why sharing our stories is one of the most powerful tools we have to continue fighting back.

The majority in Congress chose to cut Medicaid and instead use public dollars to pay for trillions in tax giveaways for the wealthiest and big corporations while ignoring the real impact on people’s lives. Like Angela, who shared during our recent 60-hour Medicaid vigil how she depends on Medicaid to live independently and continue her work as a disability rights advocate:

“Medicaid is so important to me because it allows me to have an attendant come in twice a day, seven days a week to help me with my activities… I essentially am Medicaid, so if you cut Medicaid, you’re telling me that my life and the work I do for people with disabilities aren’t important.”

Stories like Angela’s show exactly what’s at stake: people’s health, dignity, and ability to live fully and independently. Our stories prove that the Republican budget bill takes away essential care with devastating consequences for our families. We will not be ignored.

And we need your voice. By sharing your story, you:
1. Join a movement of caregivers, care recipients, families, neighbors, and advocates across the country.
2. Help us keep journalists informed on what’s happening on the ground.
3. Show policymakers what’s really at stake.

Please take 5 minutes to share your story now, and together, we can put pressure on lawmakers and remind every caregiver and care recipient that they are not alone.

With care,
