Friend, push back against the plan to sabotage assisted dying

Hi Friend,

My name is Dr Jacky Davis. I am a consultant radiologist, and chair of Healthcare Professionals for Assisted Dying (HPAD). We are a group of nearly 3,000 healthcare professionals from a range of specialisms who support the need for greater, safer choice at the end of life.

Healthcare professionals have an important role to play in the assisted dying debate, helping to make sure the law is reformed safely and effectively, for both us and our patients.

At HPAD, we amplify the voices of doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals to help make that happen.

If you are a healthcare professional, will you join HPAD to lend your voice to the campaign?

If you know a health professional who would like to be involved, please forward them this email.

Over the years I’ve been campaigning with Dignity in Dying, I’ve seen a marked shift away from paternalistic attitudes in healthcare; from “doctor to knows best”, to patient knows best. Patient-centred care that respects the autonomy and choice of the individual lies at the heart of the care good doctors and nurses strive to provide.

However, the current blanket ban on assisted dying prevents us from enabling true choice at the end of life. We are all too often left unable to honour the wishes of dying people to explore this option, and they are forced instead to suffer.

More and more healthcare professionals are recognising that this needs to change.

As a supporter of Dignity in Dying, I know that you support choice at the end of life.

That’s why I’m asking, if you are a student, practising or retired healthcare professional, will you join us and support the campaign for assisted dying?

As we get closer to law change, it is more important than ever that we remind lawmakers that there are thousands of healthcare professionals who support a change in the law.

By signing up to HPAD, you will join thousands of others calling on our lawmakers to make this change. Your expertise will be drawn upon to show why law change is the way to improve end-of-life care for all.

You’ll receive updates on the campaign and the process of the Bills across the British Isles, and opportunities to use your professional expertise and experience to help drive change for dying people and their loved ones.

If you have any questions, please contact [email protected]

Thank you for your ongoing support.

Best wishes,

Dr Jacky Davis
