Robert F. Kennedy Jr. built his career spreading anti-vaccine conspiracies and anti-science rhetoric.

He is wholly unqualified to lead anything in public health, yet Donald Trump handed him the keys to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

Now, public health leaders, Sen. Bernie Sanders, and other concerned Americans are calling for RFK Jr. to resign — myself included. 

When MSNBC asked me about it, here’s what I said:

RFK Jr. is like the guy you never wanted to have to partner with in science class. He thought he knew the answers, and now he’s lighting all of HHS on fire — dismantling the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), threatening to pull vaccines off the shelf, and gutting funding for medical research.

John, I’ve walked the halls of the CDC and seen the incredible public servants who quietly protect us every single day.

I’ve also rebuilt Detroit’s health department from bankruptcy and wrote the book on Medicare for All. I know what it takes to keep people safe.

What’s happening now puts us all at risk.

If elected, I would be the only physician-epidemiologist in the Senate — and the only senator with local public health experience. And when I get to the Senate, I’m hauling RFK Jr. up to Capitol Hill to make him explain why he’s putting his political ambition over our health.
