The Massachusetts Constitution is very strict about these petitions, so please
follow these instructions to make sure signatures can be counted:
DO:
1) Print the petition on white, letter-sized paper.
2) Print the petition double-sided.
3) Sign your name in the signature column and write your address in the column
next to it.
4) Sign as legibly as possible and make sure the address matches where you’re
registered to vote.
5) Write the name of your city or town in the box at the bottom of the page, and
encourage other voters registered in your community to sign the same sheet as
well.
6) Collect signatures using separate sheets for voters registered in different cities
and towns.
DON’T:
1) Do not alter the petition in any way.
2) Do not scribble, highlight, underline, or make any other marks on the petition.
3) Do not test pens on the petition. No coffee or food stains. NO STRAY
MARKS!
4) Do not write anything on the petition outside of the signature lines or the
boxes for writing the city/town.
5) Do not print the two sides of the petition on two sheets of paper.
6) Do not staple anything to the petition.
7) Do not collect signatures from voters registered in different cities or towns on
the same sheet.
When you’re finished with a sheet for a city or town, please submit it to the
local election official as early as possible. Petitions need to go to the clerk or
election office at the city or town hall where the signatures are gathered. For
example, sheets with signatures from Springfield voters go to the Springfield
Election Commission, while Plymouth signatures go to the Plymouth Town Clerk.
These petitions need to be submitted to local election offices no later than 5 p.m.
on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, but please deliver or mail your completed
petitions as soon as you complete a sheet for a city or town or at least a week
before this deadline.
If you’re not sure where to submit your petitions, please email us at [email protected] for help or mail them no later than November 3rd to:
