Dear friend,
As someone who spent my career in Kentucky classrooms, I believe education should teach students HOW to think, not WHAT to think.
That's why I'm deeply troubled by what's happening in Washington. The Department of Education just announced they're partnering with 40+ conservative propaganda organizations to create "patriotic" civics content for our schools.
Let me be clear: American civics education should not come with a political agenda attached.
Civics education should teach students to be proud to be an American, about our Constitution, the ideals of our founding fathers and our rights as citizens.
But it also shouldn’t shy away from difficult chapters of our history. We should learn ABOUT them, and then learn FROM them.
Please join me in pushing back against this propaganda. The truth is, we're not asking you to single-handedly save education. We're asking you to be part of something bigger. When teachers, parents, and community members like you chip in $15, $25, or $35, it adds up to real power to defend our schools.
Thank you for standing with Kentucky's students and teachers when they need us most.
