John,
For decades, billionaires gamed our tax system and avoided paying their fair share. While working people pay taxes on every paycheck, America’s wealthiest families avoid taxes on their stock portfolios, real estate, and private business assets.
This isn’t fair, and it’s time for change.
Sen. Ron Wyden and Reps. Don Beyer and Steve Cohen have championed the Billionaires Income Tax, which would finally require billionaires and ultra-millionaires to pay at least a 23.8% tax rate on all of their income — including unrealized capital gains — just like workers pay on wages.
If Congress works together to pass this bill, we’d see:
- Only the top 0.01% affected
- $557 billion in revenue raised over the next decade
- An end to the richest Americans dodging taxes with shell companies and estate tricks
This reform is overwhelmingly supported by the American people and has been for decades. The truth is, billionaires have long used lobbyists, campaign donations, and media influence to suppress this movement and keep cashing in. If we’re going to get this done, Congress needs to hear from every single one of us.
Sign on now to Tell Congress: Pass the Billionaires Income Tax and make the wealthy pay their fair share.
Thanks for stepping up,
Democratic Values
