A message from Council Leader, Councillor Neghat Khan

It’s my favourite time of year with the opening of Goose Fair, with ten days of funfair magic are in store at the Forest Recreation Ground. The fair opens its gates at 4pm this Friday (26 September) and I look forward to seeing you there. You’ll find exciting new rides and all the Goose Fair classics, plus dozens of side-show games and attractions. Food is always a highlight, and along with the traditional fairground favourites visitors will be able to eat their way around the world with a diverse range of options.

Well done to Nottingham Forest who returned to European competition last night for the first time in nearly 30 years in the Europa League. The played so well and picked up a hugely impressive 2-2 draw away at last season's UEFA Conference League finalists Real Betis. We're proud of all our sporting teams in Nottingham and having Forest back in Europe, with their first match at the City Ground next week, is a huge boost for our city. I hope all supporters - whether they were out in Seville or cheering on from home - enjoyed the game and we look forward to welcoming visitors from Denmark next week.

Good luck to all the Robin Hood Half Marathon runners taking to the streets this weekend, including Councillor Andrew Rule who is raising for money for the Fire Fighters Charity: *Andrew Rule is fundraising for Fire Fighters Charity*. [ [link removed] ]

*Goose Fair opens on Friday*

Ten days of funfair magic are in store at the Forest Recreation Ground, as Goose Fair opens its gates at 4pm on Friday 26 September! You'll find exciting new rides and all the Goose Fair classics, plus dozens of side-show games and attractions. Food is always a highlight, and along with the traditional fairground favourites of mushy peas and Cocks-on-Sticks, visitors will be able to eat their way around the world with a diverse range of food.

SEND sessions will take place on Sundays from 12pm-1pm, allowing children and people with special educational needs and disabilities to enjoy the fair without the loud noises and bright lights.

The Homemade Cafe [ [link removed] ] and Forest Sports Zone [ [link removed] ] at the Forest Recreation Ground will be open as usual during the fair.

Streets for People
Improved roads and paths across Nottingham thanks to Streets for People programme

Over 100 schemes, including resurfacing more than 15km of roads and paths, have been completed as part of phase two of the Streets for People programme. With additional funding secured, the programme can now continue to improve roads and make walking and cycling easier and safer.

The roads chosen for improvement have been put forward by local people and prioritised by ward councillors. To ensure the funds go as far as possible, the programme is made up of both standard road resurfacing and preventative maintenance. This approach will allow the team to cover a larger area and improve more roads within all wards in the city.

*Cheer on the Robin Hood Half Marathon*

Good luck to everyone taking part in the Robin Hood Half Marathon and Mini Marathon on Sunday 28 September!

Starting and finishing at Victoria Embankment, the Half Marathon passes iconic Nottingham landmarks including The Park, Nottingham Castle, and Wollaton Hall. Why not pick a point along the route to cheer them on? 

The race begins at 9.30am, and there will be a number of road closures [ [link removed] ]around the city which will also affect some trentbarton [ [link removed] ]and Nottingham City Transport [ [link removed] ]bus services.

*Theatre Royal celebrates 160 glorious years entertaining Nottingham audiences*

*A Nottingham landmark for over a century and a half, the stunningly beautiful Theatre Royal will celebrate 160 glorious years in September 2025. *

The venue will host a special programme of free community and heritage events from Monday 22 to Saturday 27 September, including an *Open Day* with access behind the scenes, heritage exhibition, talks, and foyer performances.

During the week of the anniversary, the National Theatre’s smash hit production, *"Dear England"*, will be visiting the Theatre Royal from Tuesday 23 to Saturday 27 September, as part of its first ever national tour. This forms a particularly fitting part of the venue’s celebrations, as the play’s acclaimed writer, James Graham, grew up locally and saw his early theatre, including first pantomimes, at the Theatre Royal. On finishing University, he also got his first job in theatre as the venue’s stage door keeper.

Christmas event dates for your diary

Tickets are now on sale for the brand-new *Wollaton Winter Light Trail*, which takes place from Wednesday 26 November – Wednesday 31 December. Developed by a new creative operator, the trail will feature never-before-seen installations, interactive elements, and immersive soundscapes designed to delight visitors of all ages. It’s in Nottingham’s *Christmas Market at Nottingham Castle* is extending the magic to three days this year (Friday 28 – Sunday 30 November). Visitors can explore a wide range of handcrafted gifts, seasonal treats, and local delicacies, plus live music, craft workshops, and a chance for children to meet Santa. Nottingham is awarded over £18m for warmer council homes
