Email from Alzheimer's Research and Prevention Foundation News from the Alzheimer's Research and Prevention Foundation September 2025 PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE Why We Started This Journey Dear John, My experience as an anesthesiologist taught me a profound truth: the brain is vulnerable to stress. I saw firsthand how chronic, unbalanced stress acted like "battery acid" on the memory centers of the brain. But I also saw something incredible. In the late 1980's, when I began incorporating holistic methods like yoga, meditation, exercise, and nutrition into my work with chronic pain patients, their memory – not just their pain – improved. This was a revolutionary idea at the time. I came to believe that memory loss, including Alzheimer's, is largely a disease of lifestyle. In 1993, I founded the Alzheimer's Research and Prevention Foundation (ARPF) to explore this connection and prove that lifestyle-based interventions could make a difference. The Brain Longevity Therapy Training was born out of this mission. I wanted to share the knowledge and tools we developed at ARPF with others. My goal is to equip health professionals, yoga teachers, and caregivers with our research-backed strategies to help people improve their memory and overall brain health. It’s about empowering people to take control of their own well-being and giving them a path to a future where memory loss is not an inevitable part of aging. Now, this online program is available to anyone interested in better brain health and healthy aging. I can’t recommend it enough. Our future is bright and we want to shine the light on you. Join our BLTT community and be part of the Alzheimer’s Prevention Movement. Yours in Brain Health, Dharma Singh Khalsa, M.D. President / Medical Director P.S. EXPLORE THE TRAINING AMAZING OPPORTUNITY TO SUPPORT ARPF Donor Advised Fund (DAF) Day is October 9th, 2025 Donor Advised Funds are the fastest-growing form of philanthropy and have been shown to significantly increase support for critical causes. According to a non-profit donor survey, people felt that DAF giving was a way to invest instead of an expense. A DAF is a tax-efficient way to manage your charitable giving. It's a simple, flexible, and powerful tool that allows you to contribute, invest, and then recommend grants to your favorite charities, like ARPF. By using your DAF, you can help us continue our mission of preventing Alzheimer's and empowering individuals to take control of their brain health. Thank you for your generosity! For the second year in a row, October 9 is now DAF Day! You can now easily donate from your DAF on our website. Don't have a DAF? No problem! You can still donate at the link below. Excellent and inspiring presentation. I am indeed motivated to do more systematic evidence gathering and publishing. I am looking forward to creating a case study. BRAIN LONGEVITY SPECIALIST SPOTLIGHT Janice Brunson, RYT-500, M.Ed, BLS For Janice Brunson, RYT-500, M.Ed, BLS, the most powerful takeaway of the BLTT program – and the most beneficial for her community – is that Alzheimer’s is largely preventable through lifestyle changes. “Another takeaway is that having a parent with Alzheimer’s does not mean that an individual will necessarily develop the disease. Genes are like light switches that can be flipped off and on through lifestyle choices and environmental factors,” she said. Now, Janice is focused on spreading this vital information and reinforcing the importance of social connection as a crucial part of brain longevity. Read More.
