Hey, y’all, Colin Allred here. The federal budget fight is heating up in Washington and I want to have a conversation with you about it because it’s been weighing on my mind.
I’m so sick of career politicians like John Cornyn who have spent so much time in Washington that they’ve forgotten what it means to put people – you know, the ones who elect them to serve – over party, lobbyists, and corporate special interests.
As much as I don’t want our government to be put on pause, we need to have a clear-headed conversation about how this budget will impact folks here in Texas and across the country.
Because when you get down to it, the federal budget isn’t about numbers – it’s about people.
It’s about health clinics in the Rio Grande Valley being able to stay open.
It’s about schools in Waco having the funding they need to help our kids learn and grow.
It’s about making sure folks in Dallas have the resources to keep their families fed.
We all know Republicans are in power right now. They have control over the House, the Senate, and the White House.
But Democrats have leverage – the GOP cannot pass this budget without some Democratic votes. And so we have a responsibility to use this leverage to fight for our families.
Because let me be clear: the federal budget that Republicans in Washington are trying to jam through will hurt working families. Period.
I would not have voted for this proposed budget if I was still in the House – and I certainly won’t vote for a budget like this when I’m in the Senate. I’m here to make sure Texans get a fair shot – and when it comes to securing the funding needed for our state – I won’t be a cheap date.
The current stalemate in Washington makes it clearer than ever that our system is broken. I’m in this fight to stand up for everyday people, and if you’re with me and agree that we need a bold, new generation of leadership to fight for us, I am asking you to please make a donation today to power our grassroots campaign so I can get to Washington and fight for working families. Why is right now one of the most impactful times to make a contribution? Well, our first FEC fundraising deadline of this race is coming up on Sept. 30. After that, the amount we’ve raised is a matter of public record – one you know my opponents and the national Republicans funneling money into this race will be looking closely at. This is a huge opportunity to show the strength of the movement we’re building.
Multiple polls show I’m the only Democrat in this race with a path to victory, and I know from talking to folks all over the state that Texans are as ready for change as I am; but raising the resources to run a successful campaign is still a very important part of winning races – and reaching this $350,000 end-of-quarter goal is a huge part of that. I don’t accept a dime of corporate PAC money. I rely on hardworking folks like you! And if enough people are willing to invest in this fight, we can send John Cornyn packing and create real change in Washington and real progress for our families.
I’m ready, and I hope you are, too. Thanks for being on my team.
