Do you remember the promise Donald Trump made on the campaign trail?

This person in the White House promised a whole lot of people one thing: He would bring down costs and prices.

He lied to them.

It was not just him by himself. Republicans around him perpetuated that lie and have not followed through on their promise.

Now, as Democrats try to protect health care and actually lower costs for the American people, Donald Trump will not even take their meeting.

He will not answer why he thinks it’s a good idea to cut Medicaid.

He will not answer why he is willing to shut down the government to make working people pay for the tax cut he gave the richest people in America.

Democrats are doing the job that any elected leader should do. We’re not going to do the bidding of the president at the sacrifice of our constituents' health care.

So let us be clear: It will not be the Democrats shutting down the government. It will be the Republicans.

We need to remember that as we head into the next elections.

Midterms are around the corner, and I hope to remind you that you have power.

Whether it is going to a protest, getting engaged, or using the power of your pocketbook -- you can make a difference.

And that is exactly what I am going to ask you to do today.
