RALLIES AND PICKETS THIS WEEK
Rally at Metro HQ: Reinstate Seán and Jamie
TOMORROW! September 25 @ 9:00 am
We are showing up at Metro HQ to tell the Metro Board: REINSTATE SEÁN AND JAIME
Two dedicated Metro bus operators have been wrongly fired by Metro, and we are standing up to fight for their rights. Read more here: https://lapublicpress.org/2025/08/la-metro-ice-fired-retaliation-protest/
LA Metro needs to stand up to protect riders from ICE, not to retaliate against its workers for free speech. There are many ways to get involved. If you can’t attend in-person, it is possible to give public comment by phone. If you are a member of a union, you can help by asking your local to sign a letter of support for Seán and Jaime. Busy on 9/25? Sign up for a phone zap!

DSA-LA Supports Starbucks Workers - Practice Pickets
Starbucks is still failing to finalize fair union contracts. Baristas don't want to strike... but if they have to, they're ready.
Come join DSA-LA members and Westside and Central Branch members to PRACTICE PICKET with baristas so they know we have their back! We are here now, and we will be there if Starbucks workers have to strike for a fair contract.

TONIGHT: Fascism in the Long View of History
TONIGHT! Wednesday, September 24 @ 7:00 pm
The consolidation of the capitalist class and the use of federal law enforcement to terrorize immigrants has invited comparisons of the second Trump Administration to previous fascist political projects, namely the Nazi Regime of the 20th century. This does beg a question for socialists — how much can we distinguish fascism as a political phenomenon from racist, imperialist, and authoritarian currents that preceded its rise in Europe and the US? How much of the characteristics we attribute to fascism are unique to it, and how much of it is in line with the brutal history of the nations in which it rose?
Join us for this educational as we consider the views of radical thinkers from W.E.B. Du Bois to Angela Davis who took a longer perspective of fascism as a political movement intertwined with the histories of racial subjugation, capitalist domination, and empire-building. Through an interactive discussion we hope to collectively understand fascism as something not discrete but a development in capitalist political system that must be upended.

Power to the Tenants / Housing and Homelessness Committee Meeting
Thursday, September 25 @ 7:00 pm
This is our bi-weekly meeting for DSA-LA’s priority campaign on housing. We’ll plan our campaign for stronger local rent control, tenant organizing, efforts to secure a public bank, and discuss current housing issues.
Central Branch: Know-Your-Rights Community Outreach
Friday, September 26 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Under orders from the Trump administration, fascist ICE agents descended on Los Angeles to conduct brutal raids at our workplaces, schools, and neighborhoods. Join community members and DSA-LA comrades to walk through Central LA to do outreach to community businesses, and make sure they are informed about their legal rights and prepared to safeguard their workers from ICE raids.
Training and support provided to first time canvassers.
Saturday, September 27 @ 10:00 am
Raising kids and finding time to connect with fellow socialists can seem impossible. So meet up with other DSA-LA parents and their kids for a low-key park playdate! We’ll have cold beverages, childcare activities, and space for members to connect and talk politics, power, and parenting.
This event is hosted by the Public Education Committee, organizing with students, parents and teachers to fight for the schools we deserve. Learn more by RSVPing or by filling out this interest form.

Solidarity Without Borders
Saturday, September 27 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am
Join us for part 2 of our exchange series with MORENA! This event will focus on party/organization members in office. We have confirmed the following members in office to speak for DSA! Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, Alderperson Anthony Quezada (Chicago), and Councilmember Hugo Soto Martínez (Los Angeles).
We hope to hear these DSA members in office as well speakers from MORENA address the following topics and questions: how they work within their given political structures as progressive and/or socialist; what barriers they face; what they believe still needs to change; what hopes they have within the current climate; how they view their political relationship with their respective organizations; where they see their organizations heading, and what changes they envision in the nature of their political relationship as things progress.
This will be a very special and powerful event, and we hope it will lay the foundation for a growing relationship between DSA and MORENA. Please join us for this very unique opportunity!!

Eastside + SGV DSA 101 and Social
Saturday, September 27 @ 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Are you new or newly returning to DSA? To Los Angeles? To the Left? Then join us for DSA 101!
At this orientation, we'll talk about what capitalism is, how it functions, and why socialism is ideologically opposed to it. Participants will also learn about the history of our organization and our chapter in particular, the current projects we're working on, and how you can get involved. This is not a lecture, but a meeting for new and veteran organizers to ground ourselves in socialist theory and discuss together how we can put it into action. We're excited to chat with you!
